MAYOR LEADS DELEGATION MONITORING IMPACT OF HEAVY RAINS
On 13 April 2022, His Worship the Mayor of Mandeni Local Municipality, Cllr. Thabani Mdlalose led a delegation to various areas around Mandeni which were affected by the devastating heavy rains that recently swept through KwaZulu-Natal. The aim of this outreach programme was to monitor the situation and offer instant help where needed.
Among the areas that were visited is Ward 07, 10 & 15, the delegation equipped itself with a TLB and a truck to render services where possible.
Speaking during this outreach, the Mayor urged community members to be patient as the Municipality is hard at work trying to reach all corners of Mandeni and offer services.
“We are already on the ground, we call upon our people to remain calm, we have deployed all our yellow plants and heavy-duty trucks to go out and try to restore normality. Road infrastructure has been severely affected, we have seen this first hand and we will continue monitoring the situation and ensure that our people are serviced accordingly”
Furthermore, work has already commenced in some parts of Mandeni where the Municipality is ridding the streets of rubble caused by the rains.
“As elected leaders, we have to work as first responders under such circumstances, we have to be the first ones to come out and monitor the situation so that we can be in a better position to assist our people. We cannot be found find hiding in our offices while our people have challenges. It is for that reason that we have came out today to see the damages for ourselves and offer our services” said Mdlalose.
Among those who made up the delegation is Council Speaker, Cllr. Phindile Sishi, Municipal Manager, Mr. Sizwe Khuzwayo, Managers and Municipal Officials.
