01 April 2022 - Mandeni Local Municipality successfully inaugurated ward committee members for all the 18 Wards under this Municipality for the 2021/26 term of office. The inauguration event took place at Sibusisiwe Hall on 01 April 2022.
In attendance, were Ward councilors, clerics and community members, the event saw Wad Committee members being sworn in to officially assume the duties of fast-tracking service delivery, working closely with Ward councilors to ensure community members are catered for in all sectors of life.
Key to the work of ward committee members is to be the bridge that connects community members with the ward councilor and communicate municipal programmes with the public.
Speaking at this event, His Worship the Mayor of Mandeni Local Municipality, Cllr. Thabani Mdlalose congratulated the members for being elected and urged them to remain levelheaded, put forth the needs of the community above their own.
“One of the most important things is to always remember that you are all trusted with a duty to serve, anyone could have been elected but your communities trusted you to be the ones who work towards creating better societies. Our Municipality is always open for any kind of assistance that you need, together we can make Mandeni better”
The Mayor also highlighted touched on the importance of self-growth, urging the ward committee members to learn as much as they possibly can and go back to impart that knowledge with the public.
“This is a great opportunity for you to hone your skills and gain information on local government as a whole. Yours is to learn and take that information back to the community, do not withhold information, lets be open about everything and help our communities to grow” said Mdlalose.
In conclusion, the Mayor emphasized the importance for ward committee members to be the eyes and ears of ward councilors.
