His Worship the Mayor of Mandeni Local Municipality, Cllr. Thabani Mdlalose during the live recording of his 100-days in office speech.
On 16 March 2022, His Worship the Mayor of Mandeni Local Municipality, Cllr. Thabani Mdlalose addressed the public on the occasion of celebrating 100-Days in office, the event was captured live from the Municipal Council Chambers.
Since the current council assumed duties in November 2021, a lot of strides have been made to ensure there is positive change and growth in Mandeni. In his speech, Mdlalose touched on a number of things that have been achieved within the first 100-days of the current term of office, among which is the purchase of a new grader which will assist with the maintenance of gravel roads, improving turnaround time for services such as garbage collection, the continuation of housing projects in rural areas and offering support to numerous sectors just to mention a few.
“We are also very much keen on beautifying our roads across all wards, re-gravelling rural roads, maintaining old tar roads and putting up adequate sidewalks for pedestrians. We continue to also ensure that ongoing projects are concluded and handed over to the community members, everything that we do is inspired by our IDP outreach programmes, we take note and deliver on the requests made by community members during these gatherings.” Said Mdlalose.
“Over the course of the last 100-days, we have conferred 36 youths with driving license lessons in order to help ensure that they are employable or become employees themselves. This is key to making sure we meet young people halfway in everything that they are trying to do.”
The Mayor further highlighted key areas of concern that the Municipality will cast its net on in order to ensure everyone within Mandeni is catered for.
“It is also worth noting that this council cast its net very wide to accommodate all sectors. Just last month, we hosted the Matric Excellence Awards where we were awarding the class of 2021 for their sterling working during the 2021 Matric Examinations. For this event, we were able to forge relations with MTN, and we were able to give the Top Five best performing students Tablets, which will be topped up with Data for the whole year. This will assist them as they venture into tertiary education. We also dished out R400 000 worth of registration bursaries to give our matriculants the key to enter the doors of tertiary education.”
