Mandeni host Craft Exhibition event

Mandeni Municipality hosted a Craft Exhibition Event at the Sibusisiwe Community Hall on Wednesday, 24 May 2017. The Craft Exhibition event aimed to showcase the unique handmade work created by the talented men and women of Mandeni.

Mandeni Mayor Cllr Sphesihle Zulu said Mandeni is committed to promoting and developing local craftsmen and women who try to make a living using indigenous cultural methods of creating uniquely South African crafts. “The beautiful craft and hand-work you display here today makes us as Mandeni to ponder as to how can we market this craft, to prevent a scenario where a person travels to Durban station to buy craft for traditional ceremonies rather than promoting our crafters in Mandeni, I therefore ensure that as Mandeni we will pledge ourselves to assist you to market your craft work,” said Mayor Zulu. Mayor Zulu continued that the Mandeni Municipality is committed to conquering the triple challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment. His worship Mayor Zulu further said Mandeni is gearing forward with radical economic transformation that will benefit the people of Mandeni while also making the Municipality a great investment destination for investors. Mayor Zulu also condemned the brutal killing and abuse of women and children in the country.

South Africa’s First Lady Bongiwe Ngema Zuma thanked the Mandeni Municipality for having her be a part of the Craft Exhibition event. “I would like to thank you for inviting me in this beautiful event I would like also to thank Mama Nonhlanhla Mbusi of Mathonsi Simunye Community project for great effort they have shown in craftsmanship, and I’m honoured to announce that their work had been exhibited even abroad in countries like Australia and Shangai” said First Lady Ngema.

Mandeni Municipality deputy Mayor, ward Cllrs, ward committee members and the community attended the exhibition.
